Description =========== Compaq Remote Support is a software product that enables remote problem management of networked servers running Windows NT or Windows 2000. Compaq Remote Support works in conjunction with the Compaq Remote Gateway software product and the Management Service and Action Database. Compaq Remote Support resides on customer systems and is used to to create logical groupings of networked systems called managed domains. One system in each managed domain (the Qualified Service Access Point, or QSAP) is authorized to communicate with Compaq Remote Gateway at the service provider site. When a problem arises on a system, Compaq Remote Support generates an incident report and transmits it to the QSAP node. The QSAP node, in turn, transmits the incident report to Compaq Remote Gateway. The service provider uses Compaq Remote Gateway to view incident reports and forward them to the appropriate contact. In addition to reporting problems, each system periodically sends brief messages called heartbeats to its QSAP node. The heartbeat indicates that the system is running. Similarly, QSAP nodes send heartbeats to Compaq Remote Gateway to indicate that they are running. _Top of page_ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
