Description
===========
The Compaq NC6134 is a 1000Mbps server adapter that has been designed,
developed, and tested to meet the needs of server customers. The NC6134
model supports the PCI v2.1 standard, provided by Intel's latest Gigabit
controller, and it also ships with support for all the major network
operating systems. This Gigabit (1000Base-SX ) Ethernet NIC operates in
32-bit or 64-bit PCI slots and uses bus-mastering technology to maximize
throughput and minimize CPU utilization. It currently offers the highest
data transfer method available between a network and a server for high
network performance.
Adaptive Load Balancing (ALB) and Cisco's Gigabit EtherChannel are two port
bonding methods supported by the NC6134. ALB provides both failover and
balancing of transmit traffic across all NICs for increased performance. For
even higher performance, Cisco's Gigabit EtherChannel (GEC) provides port
failover and balancing of transmit and receive traffic across all NICs when
connected to a switch that supports GEC.
Network Fault Tolerance (NFT) support, sometimes called "NIC Redundancy" or
"failover," allows the server to always keep an active link. After
installing a second, compatible NIC, if the primary network connection fails
for any reason, the second, backup NIC will automatically take
over-retaining the network connection.
The PCI Hot Plug feature enables NICs to be replaced or added to a PCI Hot
Plug compatible server without having to power off the server. This can
reduce NIC maintenance time and allows for system maintenance during regular
business hours which will increase system availability and non-stop
serviceability. Diagnostic LEDs show link integrity and network activity for
easy troubleshooting.
