*Network Management* *SNMP Manageability*
Along with Wake on LAN, the Token Ring NIC also
provides standard SNMP MIB support and can be
remotely monitored with Compaq Network Management
Software (CNMS).
*Boot ROM Support*
There is a socket on the Compaq NC4621 for Boot ROM
capability. Boot ROM support allows diskless
workstations to connect to the network, increasing
security and lowering the cost of hardware.
*MAC Address Labels*
Compaq's NC4621 has a MAC address label on the
outside of the bracket to make network
troubleshooting easier.
*Plug and Play* The NC4621 features a robust plug and play
capability for conflict-free auto configuration.
Compaq's SmartStart configuration utility includes
setup support for the NC4621 so the NIC can be
configured easily in server environments.
*Driver Support* Compaq NC4621 drivers are backward compatible with
existing Compaq (non-NetFlex) PCI Token Ring NICs
and thus protect customer's current investments.
Customers' investments in the NC4621 are also
protected through future driver releases. When
Microsoft, Novell, SCO, and others introduce new
versions of operating systems, Compaq will create
drivers that work with these operating systems.
NC4621 hardware upgrades will not be needed.
*Auto-negotiation* Auto-sensing capabilities enable the NC4621 to
automatically negotiate between 4 and 16 Mbps to
achieve the highest common speed on the network. As
businesses evolve from 4 to 16 Mbps Token Ring
networks, there is no need to buy new Token Ring
NICs.
*Wake On LAN* Compaq's NC4621 provides two popular methods of Wake
on LAN support: using a 3-pin header or through the
PCI bus. . A system that supports Wake on LAN can
remain available to a systems administrator during
its normal downtime. Once the machine is awakened,
the systems administrator can remotely control,
audit, debug or manage the machine.
*DTR (Dedicated Token Full bandwidth can be dedicated to a workstation by
Ring)* providing a direct connection between it and a Token
Ring switch that supports DTR. Full-duplex support
allows the Compaq NC4621 to transmit and receive
data simultaneously for rates up to 32 Mbps.
*Buffer Memory* Performance is further ensured with buffer memory,
which makes for low CPU utilization at high
throughputs.
*Connectors*
The Compaq NC4621 4/16 Token Ring Controller has
one RJ-45 connector and one DB9 connector.
The RJ-45 connector provides the connection
between the isolated analog differential pairs and
the CAT3 twisted-pair cables.
The DB9 connector provides the connection between
the isolated analog differential pairs and the
Type I shielded twisted-pair cables.
*Warranty* The NIC is covered by the Compaq Limited Lifetime
Warranty for parts replacement.
