A fabric can consist of a single managed product or multiple managed products. You can access the Fabric Manager through the Fabric View, as described in Fabric Manager Overview. Introduction and General Information 1 11 Fabric Manager Overview The Fabric Manager displays in a separate window from the SANworks DC Manager. The Fabric Manager enables you to create zones and zone sets and to activate and deactivate zones. There are two methods for opening the Fabric Manager: s Click a fabric icon in the Fabric View (Figure 15). s Right click a fabric icon in the Fabric View and choose Open. The Fabric Manager displays with the Topology View open (Figure 16). Figure 16: Fabric Manager with Topology View 112 SANworks Director Connectivity Manager User Guide The Fabric Manager's default view is the Topology View. You can change between this view and the Zoning View (Figure 17) by selecting options on the View menu. Figure 17: Fabric Manager with Zoning View The Fabric Manager's menu options differ from the SANworks DC Manager's menu options. The Fabric Manager menu options are described in Using the Fabric Manager Navigation Control Panel. The alert panel operates like the alert panel in the Product View, described in Alert Panel, and shows the most critical status for any product in the fabric. The Topology View displays all interswitch connections for all E_Ports in a multiswitch fabric. Products that are not managed by the SDCM server display without an alert symbol. Through the Topology View, you can change the display options for the labels under the product icons, access the Product Manager for each product, view product properties, determine the number of interswitch links (ISLs) present between any two managed products, and display ISL properties. Refer to Using the Topology View for details on using this view. Introduction and General Information 1 13 The Zoning View, shown in Figure 17, provides a complete view of the active zone set, including all zones and zone members. Fabric zoning is discussed in detail in Chapter 4. Backing Up and Restoring Data The backup and restore of critical SANworks DC Manager data on the Windows NT system is provided by the Iomega QuikSync application, which is installed on the SDCM server when you install the Iomega Zip drive. Backup During installation, QuikSync is automatically configured to mirror the contents of the SdcmData directory to the attached Zip drive any time the contents of that directory change or the server is restarted. Therefore, whenever you make a configuration change, add or remove a managed product, or make any other changes through the SANworks DC Manager or Fabric Manager, the data in this directory is automatically backed up. The existing backup file is updated; no separate versions of the backup file are maintained. NOTE: To ensure trouble-free backups, it is imperative that you leave the Zip drive connected to the SDCM server and leave a Zip disk in that drive. When you log into Windows NT on the SDCM server, QuikSync starts automatically. Any data that has changed in the SdcmData directory while you were logged out will automatically be backed up. The backed up data includes: s All SANworks DC Manager configuration (product definitions, user names, encrypted passwords, user rights, nicknames, session options, SNMP configuration, e-mail addresses, etc.). s Logs, both for the SANworks DC Manager and any Product Managers. s Zoning library, including all zone sets and zone definitions. s Firmware library. s Call-home configuration information. 114 SANworks Director Connectivity Manager User Guide Since the configuration data for each individual product is stored in NVRAM on the product itself, there is a separate backup option provided in each Product Manager to save the product configuration to the SDCM server. If you perform a product configuration backup through the Product Manager, the configuration data is stored in the SdcmData directory and automatically mirrored to the QuikSync Zip disk. The QuikSync application will not back up certain Windows NT configurations that need to be reconfigured on a newly-restored SDCM server, including: s Windows NT user names and passwords. s TCP/IP network configuration (IP address, Gateway address, DNS names, etc.) You should use other means to back up this type of information. The QuikSync application is included on the SDCM Management Applications CD, and automatically installed on the SDCM server during installation. A Zip disk dedicated to QuikSync is needed for each SDCM server and is included with the SDCM installation package. Restore In the event of a system failure, you will be able to return your database to a known state. To restore data from the backup disk to the SDCM server: 1. Click the Windows Start button, then click Programs, then Windows NT Explorer. The Exploring window displays. 2. Copy the SdcmData directory from the Zip disk to the SDCM root directory (typically c:\SdcmData). 3. Close the Exploring window. 4. Restart the SDCM server: a. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, then click Shut Down. b. On the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart the Computer and click Yes. c. When prompted, simultaneously press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to display the Windows NT Logon Information dialog box. d. Type your user name and password and click OK. 5. When the SANworks DC Manager login screen appears, enter your user name and password. Make sure that localhost is selected in the SDCM server box. 6. Click Login to open the SANworks DC Manager.
