I Node interconnect -- ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7 use
Ethernet IP or Compaq ServerNet cluster interconnects.
I Storage configuration -- ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7 use a
dual-attached configuration of the Compaq StorageWorks RA4000/4100
subsystem or cross-node mirroring of internal SCSI disks.
Cluster Configuration Overview
ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7 use one of the following
configurations:
I Cross-node mirrored (CNM) configuration -- Includes two nodes
connected by one Ethernet crossover cable or two ServerNet cables.
Cross-node mirroring of internal SCSI disks provides reliable storage
for the cluster.
NOTE: The ServerNet interconnected CNM configuration can be expanded by adding two
ServerNet switches and up to four Compaq ProLiant servers. The Ethernet IP cluster
interconnect does not support more than two servers.
I External Storage Fibre Channel (ESFC) configuration -- Includes
two nodes connected by one Ethernet crossover cable or two ServerNet
cables. The nodes are attached to a Compaq StorageWorks
RA4000/4100 subsystem.
NOTE: The ServerNet interconnected ESFC configuration can be expanded by adding two
ServerNet switches and up to four Compaq ProLiant servers. Additional Compaq
StorageWorks RA4000/4100 subsystems can be added. The Ethernet IP cluster
interconnect does not support more than two servers.
Cross-Node Mirrored Configurations
The CNM configuration for Compaq ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7
is a two- to six-node cluster with no external storage. The CNM configuration
uses a dedicated interconnect using NICs and an Ethernet crossover cable or
ServerNet adapters, ServerNet cables, and ServerNet switches (for clusters
with more than two nodes).
NOTE: Use the Cluster Integrity serial cable shipped with the U/100 Kit to ensure cluster
integrity.
NOTE: The CNM feature can be implemented on any size cluster, but only data in the first
two nodes is mirrored.

CNM cluster configurations use software mirroring between disks in the first
two servers in the cluster. Data is kept synchronized so current data is
available even if one of the nodes fails. Figure 1-3 shows a cluster in which the
data on the disks in node 1 is replicated on the disks in node 2.

Expanding the ServerNet-Connected CNM
Configuration
NOTE: Expansion of Ethernet-connected clusters is not supported.
The expanded ServerNet-connected CNM configuration supports up to six
Compaq ProLiant servers and requires a dedicated, redundant cluster
interconnect using Compaq ServerNet PCI Adapters and two 6-port Compaq
ServerNet switches. Rack-mount servers are recommended to simplify cable
management in the cluster.
NOTE: CNM is only available for nodes 1 and 2. All other nodes in the cluster use the
cluster-wide filesystem to access the storage mounted on the root node.

Compaq ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7 Clustering Overview 1-13
Expanding the ESFC Configuration
Two six-port Compaq ServerNet switches can be added to expand the basic
ServerNet interconnected ESFC configuration. These switches allow up to
four additional Compaq ProLiant servers to join the cluster. The additional
nodes allow storage units to be added to the cluster. The ESFC cluster can be
expanded to support up to 33 RA4000/4100 arrays.
NOTE: The node expansion of Ethernet-interconnected clusters is not supported.
The expanded ESFC configuration requires at least one Compaq
StorageWorks RA4000/4100 attached to the base node pair (nodes 1 and 2),
and allows RA4000/4100 arrays to be attached to the expansion node pairs
(nodes 3 and 4, and nodes 5 and 6). Other important considerations include:
I Each server in a node pair connected to an RA4000/4100 array must
have only one Compaq StorageWorks Fibre Channel host bus adapter.
I Each RA4000/4100 array must have a Compaq StorageWorks RA4000
Redundant Controller (for a total of two controllers) to allow it to be
attached to each node in the pair.
I A pair of Compaq StorageWorks Fibre Channel Storage Hubs (7-port
or 12-port) is required when two or more Compaq StorageWorks
RA4000/41000 arrays are connected to a single node pair.
The expanded ESFC configuration requires the following hardware
components:
I One to four Compaq ProLiant servers
I One Compaq ServerNet PCI Adapter per server
I Two Compaq 6-port ServerNet Switches
I Two Compaq ServerNet cables per server
I Up to 33 RA4000/RA4100 arrays
I One pair of 7- or 12-port hubs for each node pair that has multiple arrays
attached
No additional software is required.

Installing the Node Interconnect for ServerNet
The ServerNet node interconnect is for two- to six-node cluster solutions. To
install the ServerNet PCI Adapter, refer to Chapters 2 and 3 in the Compaq
ServerNet PCI Adapter Installation Guide for general installation guidelines.
I Install one ServerNet PCI Adapter version 1.5e in each server node. The
ServerNet PCI Adapter must be installed in the PCI slot identified in the
ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7 certification matrix located on
the Compaq High Availability website at
http://www.compaq.com/highavailability
I Ignore the ServerNet driver installation instructions in the Compaq
ServerNet PCI Adapter Installation Guide. The required UnixWare
ServerNet device driver is included with the SCO UnixWare 7
NonStop Clusters software and is installed automatically during
software installation.
I Ignore the ServerNet connection testing instructions in the Compaq
ServerNet PCI Adapter Installation Guide. The Cluster
Enhancements CD that came with the U/100 Kit includes the required
ServerNet Verification Utility.
Installing the Node Interconnect for Ethernet IP
The Ethernet IP node interconnect is for two-node cluster solutions only. To
install the Ethernet IP node interconnect:
I Use the NIC that is included with the server (embedded or add-in card)
or any NIC that is certified and listed on the ProLiant Clusters for SCO
UnixWare 7 certification matrix, which is located on the Compaq High
Availability website at
http://www.compaq.com/highavailability
The NICs used for the node interconnect must be identical between
servers.
I To install the NIC, follow the installation instructions in the
documentation that came with the controller.

2-4 Compaq ProLiant Clusters for SCO UnixWare 7 U/100 Installation Guide
I The Ethernet IP node interconnect is on its own private subnet. A
second Ethernet connection is required for connection to the public
LAN and must be on a different subnet than the node interconnect. For
example, if the embedded Ethernet included with the server is used for
the node interconnect, a NIC must be added for any public LAN access.
I The node interconnect and the public LAN can be configured on the
same physical multi-port Ethernet NIC if that controller is certified for
both Ethernet private node interconnect and Ethernet public LAN use. If
you are using a multi-port NIC, use one port for the node interconnect
and the remaining ports for public LAN access. Installing the Ethernet
public LAN NIC is discussed later in this chapter.
Installing the External Storage Fibre Channel
Host Bus Adapter
The U/100 Kit supports either internal cross-node mirroring or external fiber
connected storage as the reliable storage option, but not both on the same
cluster.
The fiber connected storage is implemented using an active/passive
arrangement. One Fibre Channel host bus adapter is installed in the active
storage node and another is installed in a corresponding failover storage node
consisting of a failover node pair. Valid failover node pairs are defined as
nodes 1 and 2, nodes 3 and 4, and nodes 5 and 6. The first fiber connected
storage array is always connected to the first two nodes in the cluster (node
pair 1 and 2). Use fiber expansion hubs to add arrays to this node pair or add
arrays to other failover node pairs. Installation of arrays and hubs is discussed
later in this chapter.
The following steps explain how to install the external Fibre Channel host bus
adapter, which is required to use external fiber connected storage:
NOTE: Refer to the Compaq ProLiant server documentation for general PCI adapter card
installation information.
1. Install one host bus adapter in each of the first two nodes of the cluster.
Refer to the documentation that came with the server and the adapter to
identify the PCI slots that support the adapter.
2. Install one GBIC-SW module in each host bus adapter. For installation
instructions, refer to Chapter 2 in the Compaq StorageWorks Fibre
Channel Host Adapter Installation Guide and the GBIC Connector Kit
Installation Card that came with the Fibre Channel hardware.
