The SCSI ID determines the device priority when attempting to use the SCSI bus. The highest priority, SCSI ID 7, is reserved for the controller. CAUTION: Server lockups could occur if a hard drive is installed in a drive bay with a SCSI ID that is already used by another device in the server and if both devices are on the same SCSI bus. IMPORTANT: All SCSI hard drives on the same SCSI bus must be internal (within the server) or in an external storage system, but not both. A configuration with both internal and external SCSI hard drives requires more than one SCSI bus. SCSI IDs are assigned automatically in the storage system according to the drive bay used for each drive. The SCSI ID for each bay is indicated on the front panel. The two front panel power switch positions are ON and STANDBY, rather than ON and OFF. The STANDBY position removes power from most of the electronics and the drives, but portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active. To remove all power from the system, disconnect the power cord from the ProLiant Storage System Model UE. In systems with multiple power supplies, disconnect all power cords. WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical shock or damage to the equipment, disconnect power from the storage system by unplugging all power cords from either the electrical outlet or the storage system. Redundant Power Supply Option The Redundant Power Supply option is available for the ProLiant Storage System Model UE through a local Compaq Reseller or Authorized Compaq Service Provider. The ProLiant Storage System Model UE has a provision for adding a second power supply that acts as a redundant supply when installed. This Redundant Power Supply is identical to the primary supply, and when installed, shares the electrical load equally. If either supply fails or is removed, the other takes over the full load without interruption. Hot-pluggability permits replacing the failed supply without bringing down the system. You can install a Redundant Power Supply at any time by plugging it in to the storage system. No tools are needed and there is no need to power down the system. See Chapter 5, "Installing Options" for more information on installing and using this option.
