OVERVIEW
Description
The Recovery Server Option is a high-availability solution, which offers several configurations designed for automated failover of servers or controllers to
maximize system availability in business-critical environments. Recovery Server Option includes the following configuration possibilities:
On-Line Recovery Server
Standby Recover Server
Online Storage Controller Recovery Option (OSCRO, for single server environments)
all delivering automatic recovery from server failure, or in the case of OSCRO controller failure.
On-Line Recovery Server
With On-Line Recovery Server, two ProLiant or Prosignia servers process independent workloads. In the event of a failure, each acts as an unattended
backup for the other. Switchable ProLiant Storage Systems are routed to the surviving server and their critical applications are then made available.
Selected critical tasks can be resumed within minutes.
Standby Recovery Server
With Standby Recover Server, one ProLiant or Prosignia server stands by as an idle backup for the other. Both servers are attached to a common set of
ProLiant Storage Systems holding a single copy of the operating system and data. If the primary server fails, the recovery server automatically boots and
brings users back online in minutes.
On-Line Storage Controller Recovery Option
With On-Line Storage Controller Recovery Option, two Compaq SMART-2 Controllers are installed in a single Prosignia or ProLiant Server connected to
ProLiant Storage System Models F1 or U1 via the Recovery Option Switch. In the event that one controller fails, the other controller with take over
automatically without loss of service.

ProLiant Storage Systems Model 1, ProLiant Storage System Model F1, ProLiant Storage
System Model U1 are supported via the appropriate RSO option kit.
Note: The ProLiant Storage Systems Model 1, Model F1 and Model U1 have been
discontinued. The RSO option kits should be purchased by those customers that have already
purchased one of the mentioned ProLiant Storage Systems. If you want the features,
functionality and benefits provided by the RSO option kit and have not already purchased the
mentioned storage systems, then please purchase the Compaq ProLiant Storage System
RSO/U (rack model 387256-001 and tower model 387490-002).
If you have upgraded your ProLiant F1 to U1 via the conversion kit, your existing RSO option
P/N 272829-001 is compatible. The RSO IO personality boards determine the max protocol
bandwidth. If you are using the RSO/F IO board, you will be getting Fast-Wide SCSI-2 speeds.
If you are using the RSO/U, you will be getting Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 speeds.

required for each ProLiant Storage System deployed.
On-Line Storage Controller One ProLiant Server; boot files are resident on the server and data files are located on one or
more ProLiant Storage Systems; each ProLiant Storage System is connected to the server via
