OVERVIEW
Supports up to seven hot-pluggable Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 hard drives on a single SCSI bus (also supports Fast-Wide SCSI-2 and Fast SCSI-2). Single bus
models can support up to 254.8 GB of storage, using 36.4 GB disk drives.
Hot Pluggable
Hot pluggable technology is used for drives, power supplies, and fans. Hot pluggable components can be replaced without powering down the storage
system in the event of pre-failure notification or fault. This feature significantly enhances storage system availability with the improved serviceability.
Improved Availability and Serviceability
Storage system units include hot pluggable, redundant cooling fans and support for an optional redundant hot pluggable power supply.
Auto SCSI ID Selection
SCSI ID is automatically set when a drive is inserted into a drive bay.
LED Indicators
Front panel LEDs indicate drive activity, when a drive requires service, and when power is on or off, giving a quick visual assessment of overall system
storage status. LED status and fault indicators for the fans and power supplies are located in the back of the enclosure.
Rack Density
The rack-mountable ProLiant Storage System RSO/U has a 4U height.
Fault Tolerance
Supports RAID fault tolerance (RAID 0,1,4,5) when used with any one of the Compaq SMART-2 or Smart Array Controllers.

Manageability
Numerous drive fault-prevention features are supported when used with one of the Compaq SMART-2 or Smart Array Controllers and Compaq Insight
Manager (v3.20 or later) including:
Storage Parameter Tracking: Used together with SMART-2 or Smart Array Controllers and Compaq Insight Manager predict, ProLiant Storage System
RSO/U provides Pre-Failure notification of drive failures and allows for Pre-Failure replacement of drives while gathering useful information that can be
used to manage the disk subsystem.
Thermal Tracking: Monitors internal temperature and fan status; alerts administrator when a factory preset warning temperature is exceeded or a fan
fails during operation.

Recovery Server Option
The Recovery Server Option is a high availability solution, which offers several configurations designed for automated failover of servers or controllers to
maximize system availability in business-critical environments. It includes the following:
On-Line Recovery Server: Two ProLiant or Prosignia servers (identical configuration not required) are processing independent workloads. In the event
of failure, each acts as an unattended backup for the other. Switchable ProLiant Storage Systems are routed to the surviving server, and their critical
applications are then made available. O/S Windows NT 3.5x, 4.0. Boot files are resident on the server and the data files are located on one or more
ProLiant Storage Systems, each attached to a SMART-2 or Smart Array Controller.
Standby Recovery Server: One ProLiant or ProSignia server stands by as an idle backup for the other identically configured server. All hard drive
storage is resident in one or more ProLiant Storage Systems. Both servers are attached to a common set of ProLiant Storage Systems holding a single
copy of the operating system and data, the connection is via a SMART or SMART-2 controller in the same slot in each server. If the primary server fails,
the recovery server automatically boots and brings users back on-line. O/S Windows NT 3.5x, 4.0, Novell NetWare 3.12, NetWare 4.x, IntranetWare,
SCO UnixWare 2.1.x, 7.x, SCO OpenServer 5
On-Line Storage Controller Recovery Option: Two Compaq SMART-2 or Smart Array Controllers are installed in a single Prosignia or ProLiant server
connected to a ProLiant Storage System. In the event of one controller failure the other controller takes over automatically without loss of service. O/S
